POSTGRADUATE MASTER'S THESIS

POSTGRADUATE MASTER'S THESIS

The postgraduate master's thesis may consist of either a research study or a systematic review within a specific subject field related to the Specialization.

If the thesis concerns a research study, it must be individual, original, characterized by a research focus, and drafted in accordance with the writing guidelines posted on the Postgraduate Program's website. The student is required to submit a research protocol to the Department's Ethics and Deontology Committee (relevant instructions are posted on the Department's website under Appendix I, "Guidelines for Drafting a Research Protocol", and Appendix II, "Guidelines of the Ethics and Deontology Committee"). The appendices are available on the Postgraduate Program's website.

If the postgraduate master's thesis is a systematic review, relevant guidelines are provided in Appendix III (article by P. Galanis, "Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis"). This appendix is also posted on the Postgraduate Program's website.

Plagiarism in a master's thesis or any other assignment within the framework of the postgraduate program constitutes grounds for receiving a failing grade of zero (0) on the assignment.

The selection of the thesis topic is determined following collaboration between the postgraduate student and their Supervising Professor. In the case of a research study, this must take place as early as possible to allow sufficient time for conducting the research, and in any event, no later than the beginning of Semester D. The postgraduate student submits a request using a specific form available at the Postgraduate Program Secretariat, which states the title of the proposed master's thesis and the supervisor, accompanied by an attached abstract. Following this request, the Coordinating Committee appoints the supervisor and constitutes the three-member examining committee for the approval of the thesis, one of whose members is the supervisor. The language in which the postgraduate master's thesis is written may be either English or Greek and is defined at the time the topic is approved.

The title of the thesis may be modified upon request by the student, subject to the consensus of the supervisor and the subsequent approval of the Coordinating Committee of the Postgraduate Program. The request must include a brief justification for the change.

The postgraduate master's thesis is delivered in its final form to the members of the Three-Member Examining Committee. The presentation and evaluation of the postgraduate master's thesis take place at least 3 weeks after its submission to the members of the three-member committee.

The postgraduate master's thesis is graded out of a maximum of 10 (ten), with a passing mark of 5 (five).

The Supervisor and the members of the three-member examining committee for the postgraduate master's thesis are appointed from the following categories of personnel who have undertaken teaching duties in the Postgraduate Program:

  • a) Members of the Teaching Research Staff (DEP), Special Education Staff (EEP), Laboratory Teaching Staff (EDIP), and Special Technical Laboratory Staff (ETEP) of the NKUA Department of Nursing, other NKUA Departments, or other Higher Education Institutions (AEI) or Higher Military Educational Institutions (ASEI), with additional employment beyond their statutory obligations if the Postgraduate Program charges tuition fees.
  • b) Professors Emeriti or retired DEP members of the NKUA Department of Nursing, other NKUA Departments, or other AEI.
  • c) Associate/Collaborating Professors.
  • d) Adjunct Instructors / Faculty Members on contract.
  • e) Visiting Professors or visiting researchers.
  • f) Researchers and special functional scientists from research and technological bodies under Article 13A of Law 4310/2014 (A' 258) or other domestic or foreign research centers and institutes.

By decision of the General Assembly, the supervision of master's theses may also be assigned to members of the DEP, EEP, ETEP, and EDIP of the NKUA Department of Nursing who have not undertaken teaching duties in the Postgraduate Program.

Once approved by the examining committee, postgraduate master's theses must mandatory be uploaded to the "PERGAMOS" Digital Repository, in accordance with the decisions of the NKUA Senate. If the master's thesis contains original, unpublished results, it is permitted—upon request by the supervisor and co-signed by the postgraduate student—to publish only the abstracts on the website, with the full text to be published at a later date.
